Plantar fasciitis

Plantar fascia is a group of fibrous band tissue connecting from the heel bone to the base of the toes. Its function is to support the arch of the foot.

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia caused by repeated strain , which is the most common cause of heel pain.

Without appropriate treatment, the pain may last for months to years
Causes:

Foot abnormalities e.g. Flat foot, high arch foot,
inadequate flexibility in the calf muscle -
Prolonged walking or standing

Obesity or always carry a heavy object to
increase the pressure on the arch of the foot -
Wearing inappropriate shoes
e.g. high-heel shoes, too tight and hard shoes
Symptoms:

Pain and swelling in the heel, especially on the first few steps out of bed in the morning.

The pain is slightly decreased after walking for a period of time but the pain increases again after a prolonged standing and walking.
Prevention:

Weight reduction

Avoid prolonged standing and walking, get more rest

Use of arch support or heel pads
Treatment:
-
Fascial manipulation, cold and heat therapy, interferential therapy, ultrasound, acupuncture, magnetic field therapy, shockwave therapy and foot exercise can reduce the pain and inflammation.

To wear suitable insole

In severe condition, clients can receive the steroid injection to reduce the inflammation.
